Protecting and viewing the planet from the space : an interview with astronaut Paolo Nespoli
In his long career, Paolo Nespoli, astronaut from the European Space Agency (ESA), born in 1957 in Italy, went into the space three times (in 2007, in 2010–2011 and in 2017), for a total of 313 days. He started out his career as a soldier in Lebanon as part of the Italian military. There he met the famous Italian journalist Oriana Fallaci, who inspired him to go to study Aerospace Engineering in the United States, in order to fulfil his childhood dream of becoming an astronaut. He retired in November 2018.
In this interview, Paolo Nespoli takes the opportunity to speak out for protection of the environment, the value of scientific research, the European Union and to encourage young people to follow their dreams.
