Meray Maddah

Meray Maddah is a double-major graduate who holds a B.A. in International Affairs and Diplomacy from the American University of Science and Technology (AUST) and a B.A in English Literature from Université libanaise and M.A graduate from Università degli Studi di Siena.

Maddah’s professional experience has varied between completion of different projects, academic courses, and scholarship-based exchanges in the following places : in Albania, Czech Republic, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Belgium, Turkey, Russian Federation, Southern Caucasus, Austria, Turkey, Hungary, and South Korea (including the demilitarised zone between South and North Korea), Belgium, Portugal, etc. Primarily, she is the awarded winner on the Middle East and North African (MENA) region for the United Nations Industrial Development Organization’s 50th Anniversary Research Paper Competition for her researched piece titled « Welcoming the 4th Revolution : A Cyber-Physical Reality by 2030 ». Also, she is the notable winner for the « Dokdo Islands’ Sovereignty » research competition launched by the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the military Korean battalion (Rokbatt/레바논 유엔 평화유지단 동명부대 페이지 입니다), and the Korean Embassy in Lebanon.

Currently, she is a Blue Book trainee at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) focusing on the European Neighborhood policies and external relations.

Voler des libertés en toute impunité : droit à l’avortement et état de droit en Pologne

Nous avons tous été les témoins des manifestations et des marches qui ont rempli les rues des villes polonaises avec un nombre important de femmes, mais aussi d’hommes, qui protestaient contre la suppression du droit à l’avortement soutenu par le parti conservateur PiS (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość, Droit et Justice) et par l’Église catholique. Dans un pays européen où l’idée de pluralisme a été dénigrée par le parti au pouvoir et par ceux qui soutiennent la politique controversée du parti, beaucoup ont averti qu’il se passerait peu de temps avant que les droits des femmes n’entrent dans le collimateur du parti ultra-conservateur polonais, dans sa quête pour obtenir des voix et consolider sa base électorale.

Roubar liberdades e sair impune com isso : os direitos reprodutivos e o Estado de Direito na Polônia

Todos nós testemunhamos os protestos que encheram as ruas das cidades polacas com inúmeras mulheres e homens protestando contra a proibição do aborto apoiado pelo partido PiS e pela igreja católica. Num país europeu em que a ideia de pluralismo tem sido proclamada pelo partido do poder e por todos aqueles que apoiam a controversa política do partido, muitos prenunciaram que seria uma questão de tempo até que os direitos das mulheres entrassem na linha de fogo do ultraconservador PiS para angariar votos e consolidar as suas bases doméstica.

Stealing freedoms and getting away with it : Reproductive rights and rule of law in Poland

We have all borne witness to the protests and marches that filled the streets of Polish cities with countless women, and men alike, protesting against the ban on abortion supported by the PiS party and the Catholic Church. In a European country where the idea of pluralism has been slandered by the ruling party and by those who support the controversial party’s politics, many had foreshadowed that it would be a matter of time until women’s rights would come into the firing line of the ultra-conservative PiS in its quest to garner votes and consolidate its domestic base.

The state’s ruling party, Law and Justice (also known as PiS) has been in the forefront of controversy both on the European arena and globally due to the plethora of infamous laws which have undermined norms shared between European Union member states.
